Touching Spirit® ProfessionalTraining Program
(To be slowly read aloud to the patient. Pause for approximately 20 seconds at the end of each paragraph to allow the person to follow the directions or create the appropriate image in their mind.)
Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Uncross your arms and legs, and close your eyes. Take a long, deep breath, and let it out slowly. Allow your breathing to become full, deep and relaxed.
As I count from ten to zero, allow your rational mind to rest, and you will become more receptive to the wisdom of your soul and its healing power: ten – nine – eight – seven – six – five – four – three - two – one – zero. You are now very deeply relaxed.
Image yourself on the day before your scheduled surgery. See yourself packing and preparing to travel to the hospital (or clinic, or office).
Visualize all the things you need to arrange and take care of before actually traveling to the hospital.
Once you feel prepared, image how you will get to the hospital and who will be with you.
Once you arrive, see yourself checking in, speaking with the nurses, filling out any forms that are required, and getting any last minute tests.
Before the surgery, see and hear your surgeon coming to speak with you and going over exactly how the surgery will proceed and what you can expect.
Once the time for the surgery arrives, image yourself being wheeled into pre-op, where the nurses and anesthesiologist will confirm the type of anesthesia you will be receiving, and an IV will be started.
Now the time has come for the actual surgery. Take a deep breath and relax, and trust the process. See yourself being wheeled into the operating room. Once you receive the anesthesia, you can watch the operation as though outside of yourself.
